Hi, I'm Peter — South-East Melbourne mortgage broker and founder of PSM Finance. Since starting out I've settled over $150 million in home loans for more than 780 clients across Australia, and I've been recognised by MPA Magazine as one of the Top 35 Brokers Under 35.

How much does it cost to use a mortgage broker?
Nothing — I'm paid a commission by the lender once your loan settles. The rate you get is the same (often better) than going to the bank directly, and I'm legally required to act in your Best Interests under the Best Interests Duty (BID).
How much can I actually borrow?
It depends on your income, expenses, existing debts, and the lender's specific serviceability calculator — every lender works it out differently, which is exactly why a broker can find more borrowing capacity than going to one bank. Use the free borrowing power calculator for a quick estimate, then jump on a call for an accurate figure.
I've been told I can't get approved — should I still call?
Yes. A lot of my clients come to me after one bank says no. With 40+ lenders on panel — including non-bank and specialist lenders — there's almost always a path forward. Worst case, I'll tell you exactly what you need to fix before you're loan-ready.
How long does the process take?
Pre-approval is typically 3–7 business days once we have your documents. Full settlement depends on the lender and whether you're buying or refinancing — most refinances settle within 3–4 weeks, purchases align with your contract.
I'm not in South-East Melbourne — can you still help?
Absolutely. I'm based in South-East Melbourne but I service clients Australia-wide. Everything can be handled over phone, video, and secure document upload — no in-person meetings required unless you'd prefer them.
What documents do I need to get started?
For the first call, nothing — just turn up. Once we move forward you'll need ID, two recent payslips, two months of bank statements, and details of any existing debts. I'll send you a clear checklist so there's no guessing.
